Why are there no 4 Stroke engine powered Heli just 2 Stroke ?

I would assume it's because of the power/weight ratio, but I really wouldn't know. It would be interesting to see one....or should I say, HEAR one! I'm sure someone out there has built one.

I just have always have run 4 stroke's in all my aircraft, and you cant beat the sound of a 4 over a 2 stroke. maybe its the rpm you get from a 2 stroke for Heli's but with a 4 stroke you get alot more torq but not the rpm but you can change your gear setup to keep the head speed up. i know weight is a issue to.

one of the problems is you get a power surge with the power stroke, the power is inconsistant, and low to begin with. Kyosho did sell a model that was re-geared for a four stroke, but they never caught on...

Century also made the Century Phoenix which was a hawk/raven platform heli swt up for 4-stroke.

Don't be so quick to judge, you just have to look in the right place. check link below

Vario sells a heli that uses the OS 4 stroke but it is the 2 cyl version. I think the engine is size is 1.62.

Vario sells alot of interesting helis and scale model kits. They are not that popular in the states.

Yeah i think that was the Kyosho Lagato or something like that it was a regeared version of the nexus i flew one once it sounded cool but it was limited in power plus with it powered by a 4 stroke it vibrated a good bit due to the power pulses further apart and had a nasty habit of throwing the fan . cya all (Nitro)

Wouldn't cooling be another problem? Had a guy at the field we fly at put a Saito 4 stroke in a Vibe! I liked the way the thing sounded, but the power really sucked and it ran really hot. A lot of money for kicks! I guess if you have the money, experimenting is cool! I wouldn't know? :D

Yeah 4 strokes get hot pretty quick. And a saito in a vibe?? thats a new one a Satio for one thing isn't designed for a heli in the first place and with the vibe being a 90 the satio had to be atleast in the 1.20 range so i would emagine he had some issues with it Valve float could be one of them .But as you said Waipahe if you have the money to expeament with more power to ya Personly i would like to see a 4 stroke come out that had the power to do todays flying styles. One of my reasons is less fuel consumpsion, because one thing that lagato did do was run forever on a tank because fuel consumption with 4 strokes are lower than with 2 strokes but seeing a 4 stroke come out with that much power i've a feeling is a long way off cya (Nitro)

there is a company from Switzerland that is selling a four stroke heli...a really nice one. it is designed around the Saito 150 and uses 760mm blades.... how cool is that!

Wow I stand corrected, that thing moves along pretty good. Climb out looks deacent too and the kit comes with the Saito whitch is another plus. I also like the cooling shroud whitch covers almost the entire engine whitch would help the cooling issue with the saito. Thanks man for turning me on to this heli :D cya man (Nitro)
